Points to Consider When Choosing the Best Orthodontist in Santa Barbara, CA

There are several points to consider for choosing the best orthodontist in Santa Barbara, CA, as this one decision can make a major difference in your treatment. Orthodontists are specialists who treat oral issues related to misaligned jaws and teeth. Most people think of orthodontists when they require braces, and since this kind of treatment is usually in question, it is best to choose an orthodontist wisely. Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics, the best of the best in Santa Barbara, CA, has some guidelines to follow for selecting the right doctor for you:

Ask for Recommendations and Research Online

Usually your dentist will be the first to spot any orthodontic issue, and will therefore recommend a dedicated and impressive orthodontist that he knows, such as Dr. Kubisch or Dr. Ferris. Your dentist is likely to recommend the best, but you could also ask around amongst your friends and family members. Usually, candid feedback from actual patients will give you a sensible idea about the type of treatment you can expect. Lastly, you should also consult online research before choosing the best orthodontist for you in Santa Barbara, CA.

Expertise and Knowledge

While choosing the best orthodontist in Santa Barbara, CA, you will obviously need to consider the level of knowledge and expertise of the person. Luckily, there are ways for determining their expertise and accomplishments. First, keep in mind that all orthodontists have to complete additional two to three years of training after dental school to qualify, meaning that no matter what, you can trust an orthodontist to be better suited to provide braces and other treatments to a patient than a regular dentist. Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics has been providing oral realignment systems to patients in Santa Barbara, CA for many years, and has all the experience needed to get you the smile you want.

Secondly, before you decide you must also consider that not all orthodontists are certified by ABO (American Board of Orthodontics). ABO has an examination that evaluates the clinical skills and knowledge of trained orthodontists. Only orthodontists who are confident in their skills take this exam to get the certification. The ABO website has a list of orthodontists who are certified by them in Santa Barbara, CA. Should an orthodontist not be certified by ABO, that does not mean necessarily that they are not qualified, however, this is an impressive feature to add to a doctor’s resume, and could be one you should keep an eye out for.

First Consultation

The first consultation can be a big deciding factor. After all, meeting the person who will be involved in such a big process in your life is important. Many local orthodontists provide free initial consultations, where you will get the opportunity to assess the friendliness, professionalism, and dedication of the team. At Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics, we are eager for you to contact us and set up a visit. Our staff is friendly and patient, and Dr. Kubisch, Dr. Ferris, and the orthodontic team are here for only one reason: you. We are dedicated to getting you precise results in Santa Barbara, CA.

Cost of Treatment

Apart from expertise and skill, the other main point to consider while choosing the best orthodontist in Santa Barbara, CA is what the treatment is going to cost you and the payment options that are being offered. When the treatment involves braces, it is usually quite expensive, and you will want a payment plan that you can afford. Inquire about the different payment plans that are on offer before you make a decision.  Visit Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics online to learn about the payment plans we offer.

Skilled Orthodontist helps with Crooked Teeth

orthodontist-montecitoCrooked teeth are a problem we see a lot at Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics. In fact, this is one of the main reasons that many patients near Montecito choose to speak to a skilled orthodontist and get advice about orthodontic treatment. Crooked teeth can look undesirable or feel uncomfortable, and may even put patients at risk of health problems. So, it is very important to fix crooked teeth. But before taking that step, many patients want to know more about why their teeth are this way. What causes crooked teeth to happen in the first place? Is it preventable? What are the orthodontic treatment options? Drs. Kubisch and Ferris and the team at Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics are here to help answer these questions

What causes crooked teeth?

Every patient’s mouth is different which is why it important to go to a skilled orthodontist near Montecito like Drs. Kubisch and Ferris. There are a lot of causes for crooked teeth, and any one or combination of these reasons may trigger patients to seek orthodontic treatment near Montecito. For example, crooked teeth can be caused by:
• Genetics
• Gingivitis
• Premature loss of baby teeth
• Thumb sucking
• Disproportionate jaw and teeth (jaw is too small to accommodate teeth properly)
• Pressure on teeth or gums
These factors will result in teeth that are misaligned, overlapping, angled, or growing in improperly. In addition to being visually unappealing, teeth that grow in this way may be putting patients at risk for oral health problems, as bacteria, sugar, and food can get trapped in the misshapen spaces between teeth, and proper brushing and flossing becomes difficult or even impossible.

Can crooked teeth be prevented?

Drs. Kubisch and Ferris say simply, sometimes they can, and sometimes they cannot. It all depends on what is causing the problem. For instance, if the crooked teeth are going to be inherited, there is no way to avoid them growing in this way. However, if they may be caused as a result of thumb sucking or gingivitis, there are steps patients can take to hopefully keep teeth straighter. So, Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics recommends that all patients take preventive measures to minimize the possibility of crooked teeth. Patients should practice good oral hygiene, being sure to brush and floss every morning and evening. Additionally, parents should be wary of kids’ thumb sucking or putting undue pressure on the teeth and gums, and try to help them kick these habits early on. It is also recommended to begin visiting the Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics office near Montecito early on, so crooked teeth can be monitored closely by the orthodontist and necessary action can be taken before problems become worse.

What are the treatment options?

Luckily, crooked teeth can be easily fixed, and health problems associated with them can be avoided. If you are interested in correcting your crooked teeth for any reason, Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics has many treatments available. Braces in Montecito can be a perfect solution, as their design applies pressure to the teeth and bones, moving and spacing them to better align the teeth. Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics is also proud to offer Invisalign, which is a clear alternative to metal braces that works to also move and align the teeth better. To figure out which treatment option is the best for you, set up a consultation with Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics. Drs. Do I need an Orthodontist for Braces?

braces-orthodontist-isla-vistaDo I really need to go to an orthodontist to get braces? You may love your family dentist, and he or she may have told you that they can “do your braces” for a lot less money than an orthodontist. While this is very nice, it’s also a big gamble. Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics says a regular dentist most likely will not understand how complicated each case may be. You don’t want to risk adding more time and expense to your orthodontic treatment which could happen by using a regular dentist. It may be likely you would need to have corrective work done by Drs. Kubisch and Ferris and their orthodontic team.

Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics says that orthodontists are specially trained in tooth movement and jaw function; dentists are not. Yes, some dentists have taken a few course hours to learn how to do Invisalign or other types of braces, but that is not the main thing that they do. In terms of education, Orthodontists first go to dental school and become dentists. Then they attend an orthodontic program for several more years to learn specifically about tooth movement, jaw function, and facial aesthetics. After that, they take a special exam to become Board Certified. Orthodontists handle assessing all alignment issues, and then they can advise patients on procedures like braces. When a patient decides to move forward on braces, an orthodontist can help them select the best option, and then manage their care.

Drs. Kubisch and Ferris and other orthodontists have worked hard to get specialized training and education, in order to provide you with access to different dental solutions like clear braces, palette expanders and all types of braces. For the best orthodontic treatment in the Isla Vista area, call Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics at 805-687-7417.

Goleta Orthodontist awaits Bluetooth Toothbrush

Does it seem as if everything imaginable is “connected?” Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics in Goleta say that you can now add toothbrushes to the list of what’s connected.

At CES, the company Kolibree unveiled what it calls the world’s first connected electric toothbrush. According to the company, the new connected toothbrush will track user’s dental activity and help people brush smarter which will lead to healthier teeth.

Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics say the concept is simple. Users would download Kolibree’s mobile app on their smartphone or tablet and then connect to the toothbrush via Bluetooth. Each time you brush your teeth, the brush will record a set of relevant data, which you can later view and analyze via the mobile app.

Essentially, the brush records how someone cleans their teeth which you can bring to Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics. It keeps track of how long the brushing lasted, and how rigorous it was in terms of reaching each and every tooth, and the gums. There’s a bit of gameplay built in as well, which challenges users to do better next time, and the company has created an API, hoping that third-party developers will come up with additional apps that will inspire users to brush more, and more effectively.

Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics say the company is planning on releasing several different models of its toothbrush, ranging from $100 to $200, in the third quarter of 2014, with a campaign to start things off. The app will be able to keep data from multiple brushes so that a family can see how everyone else is doing. The data can also be easily shared with friends, your dentist or orthodontist in Goleta.

Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics say it will be interesting to see how the Bluetooth toothbrush is received. Do the patients at Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics in Goleta want a connected toothbrush? It is possible with individuals paying more attention to their health; they will want the benefit of keeping an eye on their teeth and their oral hygiene.

When and if the Bluetooth toothbrush hits Goleta, Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics will advise its patients. In the meantime, keep up your oral hygiene with regular visits to Kubisch and Ferris Orthodontics in Goleta.
